ICC World Twenty20 - A Brief Note

The ICC World Twenty20 is the international championship of Twenty20 cricket. It is also known as T20 World Cup. The event is organised the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The inaugural edition was held in South Africa from 11–24 September 2007. M S Dhoni led India won the tournament. Twelve teams participated in the tournament into four groups.

The teams are:
Group A: South Africa, West Indies, Bangladesh
Group B: Australia, England, Zimbabwe
Group C: Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Kenya
Group D: India, Pakistan, Scotland

South Africa, Bangladesh, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan won the group stage and they entered in the super eight competition. New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia and India played in the semifinals. India and Pakistan enter in final and India won the tournament.

The second edition of the ICC T20 was held in England from June 5-21, 2009. Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in the final match. Twelve teams participated in the tourmanment into four groups.

The teams are:
Group A: India, Bangladesh, Ireland
Group B: Pakistan, England, Netherlands
Group C: Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies
Group D: New Zealand, South Africa, Scotland

India, Ireland, England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Suoth Africa and New Zealand won the group stage. The super eight consist of two groups, Group E and Group F. south Africa, West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka played in semifinals. Sri Lanka and Pakistan enter final and Pakistan won the tournament.
